art scanning - art photography

Art scanning, art photography and giclée printing

As a fully qualified, apprentice-trained scanner operator with 30 years' experience in pre-press reprographics, scanning was the first service I offered when Actual Colour was formed in 2003. Using a state of the art high end Fuji scanner and industry leading hardware colour calibrated Eizo ColorEdge computer monitor, quality and colour accuracy is assured.

Specialising in fine art scanning and giclée print reproductions the Fujifilm Finescan 2750XL scanner has a large scan bed which can handle originals to 470mm x 350mm although larger artworks can be scanned in two halves or even quarters and joined seamlessly in Photoshop™, allowing originals at up to A1 to be scanned. Most types of art media can be scanned in amazing detail eg watercolour, canvases, oils, acrylics, charcoal, pastel, pen and ink etc.

If your original artwork is larger then A1 or if it needs to be captured within its frame, it can be photographed using colour correct lighting and a state of the art professional 36 Megapixel camera, that means your images can be supplied at up to A2 in size at 300dpi. Pictures 4, 7, 14, 16, 18, 22, 25, 26, 37, 38, 39, 42, 44 and 51 below are examples of my art photography.

I take pride in my work and often take time going over the scans on screen with artists tweaking specific colours to their exacting requirements. Giclée prints can be made onto a choice of papers, 100% cotton rag 300gsm acid free smooth art paper (coated or uncoated) Museum 310gsm slightly textured fine art paper which is pH neutral or canvas at competitive prices, alternatively for smaller sizes digital printing can be used for up to A3.

Scans can also be produced from photographic prints, maps, documents, transparencies from 35mm to large format, and even fabric or flat objects such as wood or other product samples and swatches.

I have worked for many artists and galleries including Philip Sutton, Vanessa Gardiner, Royal Academy of Arts, Brian Martin, Sladers Yard, Tim Haywood, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Neil Bromley, Jane Cope and Willow Paterson.
